Developer salaries in Spain by tech stack: Python, Java, Go (2026)

Software engineer salary in Spain by tech stack: posted pay for Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin and more, with Barcelona and Madrid compared (2026).

What is a typical software engineer salary in Spain for your tech stack? On Spain Dev Jobs on 16 October 2026, most posted salaries for Python jobs were €42k to €122k a year, and for Java jobs €44k to €127k. Go, Kotlin, Rust and C++ ads started higher, around €50k to €58k, while C# and .NET ads paid the least of the stacks we track. In our October report, the median advertised salary across all jobs was €74,500, with Barcelona ads ahead of Madrid ads.

These are salaries that employers published in their own ads, for English-speaking jobs. Below we explain what the figures do and don’t show, and compare them with official and self-reported data.

All figures are gross yearly pay in euros. To see what you would take home, use our salary after tax calculator.

Where these numbers come from

We use three sources, because no single one is complete:

  1. Salaries posted on our board. Every stack page (for example Python jobs) shows the range that “most posted salaries” fall in, worked out from ads that state a yearly salary in euros. We never estimate pay for ads that don’t state one. Only about 12% of the 2,583 live ads stated a salary when we published our October 2026 report, so treat small groups with care.
  2. Self-reported pay from Levels.fyi, which includes bonus and stock.
  3. Official statistics from the INE, Spain’s national statistics office, which has no “developer” category but does report pay for the information and communications sector.

One more caution: our board lists only companies where English is the working language. Many are international companies, scale-ups and well-funded startups, which tend to pay more than local IT consultancies.

Salary by tech stack

These figures come from the stack pages on Spain Dev Jobs on 16 October 2026. “Typical posted range” is the range most posted salaries fall in. “Ads with a salary” is how many of the live ads stated a yearly salary in euros.

Stack Live jobs Ads with a salary Typical posted range
Python 868 104 €42k to €122k
Java 264 42 €44k to €127k
TypeScript 263 54 €37k to €181k
Go 225 21 €50k to €139k
React 216 37 €43k to €209k
JavaScript 184 26 €41k to €114k
C++ 141 8 €58k to €130k
C# 109 5 €35k to €69k
Kotlin 108 23 €50k to €144k
Ruby 90 9 €36k to €120k
Rust 78 13 €51k to €112k
.NET 76 9 €36k to €91k
Swift 35 10 €50k to €192k

Cloud and infrastructure skills show up in many of the same ads. Kubernetes jobs had a typical posted range of €50k to €133k (66 ads with a salary), and AWS jobs €44k to €122k (81 ads).

What the stack table tells you

  • The bottom of the range matters most. Go, Kotlin, Rust and C++ ads rarely post salaries under about €50k. Those stacks are used mostly by product companies and for backend, infrastructure and systems work, where few roles are junior.
  • The top of the range is driven by a few ads. TypeScript, React and Swift reach €180k to €209k because a handful of senior or staff roles at international companies posted high ranges, often for remote work. Don’t read them as typical.
  • C# and .NET pay less on our board, but with only 5 and 9 ads stating a salary, the figures are thin.
  • Python is everywhere. It appears in about a third of all ads on the board, from data engineering and machine learning to backend and DevOps, so its range is wide.

The stack is only part of the story. Seniority, company type and the role itself usually move salary more than the language.

Python developer salary in Spain

On 16 October 2026, 104 of the 868 Python ads on our board stated a yearly salary, and most fell between €42k and €122k. Python is the most common skill in machine learning, data and backend ads. In our October report, the median for machine learning and AI roles was €71,630 and for data engineering €62,000, while backend roles had a median of €86,500.

Java developer salary in Spain

On the same day, 42 of the 264 Java ads stated a salary, with most between €44k and €127k. Java is common at banks, insurers, e-commerce and large enterprises, as well as in IT consultancies. Consultancy roles often pay less and rarely post salaries, so the true market range for Java in Spain is likely to start lower than our figures. Java ads were less often fully remote (28%) than TypeScript (49%) or Go (60%) ads.

By city, Java ads in Barcelona mostly posted €46k to €95k, and in Madrid €42k to €100k, from small samples of 8 and 13 ads.

Developer salary in Barcelona vs Madrid

Barcelona and Madrid together hold more than half of the jobs on our board. In our October 2026 report:

City Live jobs Ads with a salary Median posted salary 10th to 90th percentile
Barcelona 768 104 €71,250 €38,600 to €137,000
Madrid 693 77 €60,500 €39,200 to €100,000

Self-reported pay points the same way. On 16 October 2026, Levels.fyi showed a median total compensation for software engineers of €64,188 in the Barcelona area (692 submissions) and €55,731 in the Madrid area (728 submissions). For Spain as a whole the median was €55,411, with the 25th percentile at €38.4K, the 75th at €75.8K and the 90th at €96.5K (Levels.fyi Spain).

Barcelona has many international product companies and regional hubs that hire in English, which helps explain the gap. Madrid has more large Spanish companies, banks and consultancies, where pay for developers is often lower but jobs can be more stable. Our cost of living guide for Madrid helps you compare what the money buys.

Salary by role

The October report also breaks down posted salaries by role:

Role Median posted salary Ads with a salary
Engineering management €105,500 5
Backend €86,500 31
Product €84,000 29
Machine learning and AI €71,630 22
Security €68,500 16
DevOps and SRE €62,250 38
Data engineering €62,000 13
Data science €60,750 20

Junior and senior software engineer salaries

Our board can’t give a reliable split by seniority yet: in October 2026, only 59 of 2,583 live ads were marked junior and 838 senior, and 44% didn’t say. Levels.fyi also shows only an all-levels figure for Spain. As a rough guide, the lower end of each stack range above (about €35k to €50k) is where junior and early mid-level ads sit, and the upper end belongs to senior, staff and lead roles.

For official context, the INE’s annual salary structure survey, published on 28 May 2026, put average gross pay in 2024 at €42,741.94 in the information and communications sector, against €29,540.26 for all workers. That sector includes software companies but also telecoms, media and publishing, and every level of seniority.

Salary and visas

If you need a work permit, check the salary first. The EU Blue Card and the national highly qualified professional permit require a gross yearly salary of at least 1.4 times the average gross annual pay per worker published by the INE (Order PJC/44/2026). With the 2024 average of €29,540.26, that is about €41,356. A reduced threshold of 0.8 times that figure (about €33,085) applies to some shortage occupations and recent graduates.

Almost every stack range above starts at or just above that line, so junior offers may fall short. Our visa salary check tests an offer against the threshold, and the work visa guide explains the permits.

Comparing offers

  • 12 or 14 payments. Spanish employees are entitled to two extra payments a year, but a collective agreement can spread them over 12 months (Workers’ Statute, article 31). Compare the yearly gross, not the monthly figure.
  • Employee or freelance. A B2B or freelance rate has to cover your own Social Security, holidays and downtime. Our autónomo guide shows what the monthly cuota costs.
  • Tax regime. If you move to Spain for the job, the Beckham Law can lower your income tax. See our tax basics guide.
  • Remote roles. Some remote ads pay in line with another country’s market. A third of the jobs on our board were fully remote in October; see remote jobs.
